Susie and Brent Helms, the owners of Helms & Helms, started the law firm in 2017 after retiring from in-house careers with several corporations. Brent is board certified in Oil, Gas, and Mineral law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is licensed in Texas and Oklahoma. Susie is licensed in Texas and Florida. Brent Helms
Until March 1, 2015, Brent was the Assistant General Counsel at Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. (“TPRI”) where he worked for 26 years. Brent’s experience has been that of a corporate generalist handling the widest variety of transactions related to upstream (E&P), downstream (Chemicals, Base Chemicals and Petrochemicals) and manufacturing industries. He also has experience in private practice where he worked for 9 years before joining TPRI in 1989 and for almost 2 years since leaving TPRI. Prior to the creation of Helms & Helms, Brent was a Special Counsel with the national law firm of Jones Walker.
Brent is licensed to practice law in Texas (since 1980) and Oklahoma (since 1990) and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbard (top pier rating for lawyers). He is also board certified in Oil, Gas & Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Susie Helms
Susie started her legal career as a maritime defense litigator with the firm of Clann & Pearson in Houston, Texas, where she worked for 6 years. After leaving private practice, Susie moved to an in-house position and worked as a litigation manager for several oil and gas producers and industry service companies for 29 years. In the 10 years preceding her retirement in December 2015, Susie worked for Total E&P USA, Inc., managing the company’s litigation portfolio and for Key Energy Services. Her experience included litigation management, drafting, and negotiating master service and related agreements. In 2017, she joined Brent in creating Helms & Helms. Susie is licensed in Texas and Florida.
